The KENNAMETAL 1162184 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated CCGT32.51HP under ANSI standards and CCGT09T304 under ISO, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The K313 grade delivers high wear resistance suited to stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. With a 1/64-inch corner radius and an HP chip breaker geometry, it is engineered for light, high-finish cuts on demanding workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-on style toolholders for turning, facing, and boring applications.
This insert is intended for finishing passes on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials, and also performs across stainless steel and cast iron applications. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for either direction of cut. The HP chip breaker promotes efficient chip evacuation during fine finishing cuts where surface integrity and tight tolerances are the priority. It is appropriate for both production-volume turning on machining centers and job-shop lathe work where a reliable, sharp-edged uncoated carbide insert is required.
Designed for use in screw-on style CCGT-compatible turning toolholders sized for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations. Compatible toolholder selection should reference the ANSI size code 3251 or ISO size code 09T304.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a powered-off, locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not estimate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect insert seating and surface finish. Dispose of used carbide inserts in accordance with local regulations for metal waste.
