The KENNAMETAL 1162183 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the ANSI designation CCGT32505 and ISO designation CCGT09T302, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, delivering tight surface finishes at shallow depths. With a corner radius of 0.0079 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches, this insert is built for light, accurate passes where surface integrity and dimensional control are the priority. Machining professionals install it using a screw-on holding method for secure, repeatable positioning.
This insert is suited for finishing applications across turning, facing, and boring operations. The K313 grade targets stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, providing high wear resistance with moderate toughness across these material groups. The bright, uncoated carbide surface is preferred when machining non-ferrous and aluminum workpieces where coating adhesion or built-up edge from coated grades can be a concern. It is a neutral-hand insert compatible with standard CCGT screw-on toolholders.
Designed for use in standard CCGT screw-on turning insert toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with toolholder systems specified for ANSI size code 32505 or ISO size code 09T302.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
