The KENNAMETAL 1162181 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CCGT style, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation CCGT21505 and the ISO designation CCGT060202. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert geometry delivers sharp, positive rake cutting action with a 15-degree rake angle and a honed cutting edge for clean, consistent surface finishes. The K313 grade provides high wear resistance suited to non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys. With a 0.0079-inch corner radius and a screw-on holding method, this insert seats repeatably in compatible toolholders for tight tolerances and minimal runout.
The 1162181 is intended for finishing passes in turning, facing, and boring applications. Its HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it well suited for close-tolerance work on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and titanium or superalloy components. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments use this insert where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary concerns. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque driver for the screw-on fastener to avoid cracking the carbide body or stripping the seating pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim for wear or debris before inserting — a contaminated seat will cause premature edge failure and dimensional drift.
