The KENNAMETAL 1162004 is a TCGT21.51HP-style solid carbide turning insert with a TiN coating applied via PVD process, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC and manual turning equipment. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius, it is built for fine finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Three usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method make this insert practical for high-volume production environments.
This insert is suited for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium in both residential and commercial machining environments. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for light, finishing depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it well-suited for parts requiring tight tolerances and fine surface finishes. Multi-use applications include turning, facing, and boring. The KC730 grade provides high wear resistance combined with moderate toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material categories.
Designed as a screw-on turning insert compatible with TCGT-style insert pockets rated for ANSI size code 2151 and ISO size code 110204. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert securely in a TCGT-compatible screw-on toolholder pocket. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is removed or locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry to avoid premature edge failure.
