The KENNAMETAL 1161945 is a solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiN coating and the DPMT32.51LF geometry. It is designed for single-point metal removal operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, which reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip evacuation. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining applications. With 2 usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert delivers consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy on precision workpieces. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for finish-to-light turning of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. The KC730 grade is rated for high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece categories, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S). Typical applications include tight-tolerance OD turning and internal boring on CNC lathes in job shop and production environments. The screw-on holding method provides secure clamping in compatible DPMT-style toolholders. This insert conforms to ANSI insert code DPMT3251 and ISO insert code DPMT11T304.
Designed for use in screw-on style DPMT toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 3251 and ISO size code 11T304. Compatible with toolholders rated for a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert. Material grade classification C2, C3, and C4 carbide applications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the screw-on clamp screw to avoid seat damage or screw failure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
