The KENNAMETAL 1161936 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designed for finishing and light machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. It carries the ANSI insert code DPGT32505 and ISO code DPGT11T302, with a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a positive rake and relief angle geometry. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions, making it well suited for production turning on CNC lathes and machining centers. The screw-on holding method provides secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Its LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes where close tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. The KC730 grade is particularly effective on steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) materials, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-class). The insert offers two usable cutting edges per piece, improving cost-per-edge efficiency in production environments.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting DPGT-style inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw specification before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torque driver or wrench for the mounting screw to avoid over-tightening, which can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Confirm insert hand orientation and depth-of-cut limits before returning the machine to service.
