The KENNAMETAL 1161934 is a solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiN coating and a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, designed for precision finishing and light machining operations on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. Carrying the ANSI insert designation DPGT21505 and the KC730 manufacturer grade, it features a positive rake geometry and a honed cutting edge that reduces cutting forces during light passes. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.6104 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. The screw-on holding method ensures repeatable seating and quick indexing in compatible toolholders.
This insert targets finish turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it well suited for production environments where consistent tool life on steel and stainless steel workpieces is a priority. It is sold in a minimum order quantity of 5 inserts, with each package containing 1 insert.
Designed as an OEM screw-on replacement insert for DPGT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards (ANSI: DPGT21505, ISO: DPGT070202). Verify toolholder seat geometry, screw hole diameter, and insert pocket size before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Use the correct Torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification to seat the clamping screw without over-torquing the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge positioning.
