The KENNAMETAL 1161929 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated DCMT32.52LF under the ANSI system and DCMT11T308 under ISO, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The KC730 grade carries a PVD-applied TiN coating optimized for high wear-resistance across a range of workpiece materials. With an LF chip breaker geometry, the insert is engineered for finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and edge control are critical. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. The KC730 grade delivers high to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across these material groups, making it a versatile choice for shops running varied material types without frequent grade changes. The neutral hand orientation supports use in standard right-hand toolholders configured for DCMT-style screw-on insert seating.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards for the 3252 / 11T308 insert size designation. Consult toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before seating or replacing the insert. Use a torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when resuming operation.
