The KENNAMETAL 1161928 is a solid carbide turning insert with a DCMT32.51LF geometry and KC730 manufacturer grade. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a PVD-applied TiN coating engineered for high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert carries a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees with a 7-degree relief angle. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it is sized for finishing and light machining operations. Installation is via screw-on holding method. Machinists and CNC operators running production turning cells will find this insert suited to tight-tolerance finishing passes.
This insert is intended for external and internal turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is well suited for use on steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) workpiece materials, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S-class). The KC730 grade is characterized by high wear resistance transitioning to moderate wear resistance and toughness across those material classes.
Designed as a screw-on replacement turning insert compatible with DCMT32.51 toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation and indexing of carbide turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to manufacturer torque specifications — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm insert orientation and hand before resuming operation.
