The KENNAMETAL 1161923 is a solid carbide turning insert with a PVD-applied TiN coating, designed for high-precision finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. It carries the DCGT32.51HP ANSI designation and conforms to ISO code DCGT11T304. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle, promoting clean chip formation and low cutting forces. With a 1/64-inch corner radius and honed cutting edge, this insert is built for fine finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness across a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for finishing applications in CNC turning centers and manual lathes handling steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpieces, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S). Typical operations include turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The screw-on holding method suits toolholders designed for DCGT-style inserts with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. It is a multi-use insert appropriate for both production and job-shop environments where consistent surface quality is required across moderate to high cutting speeds.
Designed for use in screw-on DCGT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for primary workpiece materials steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K), with secondary ratings for superalloys and titanium (S). Material grades C2, C3, and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by machining professionals or toolroom technicians using appropriate DCGT screw-on toolholders. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Secure the insert with the correct torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications to avoid insert movement or chipping. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker condition before each use and replace the insert when wear exceeds acceptable limits for the application.
