The KENNAMETAL 1161920 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT style, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and manual turning equipment. Coated with TiN via a PVD process, this insert carries the KC730 grade designation and is engineered for high wear-resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape delivers a positive rake angle of 15 degrees and a positive side clearance, reducing cutting forces and heat generation during light finishing passes. With a corner radius of 0.0079 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches, it is sized for close-tolerance finishing work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install these inserts on screw-on style toolholders.
This insert is suited for finishing passes in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. It also performs in cast iron applications. The HP chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, controlling chip formation at low feed rates and shallow depths of cut. The neutral hand designation means it is compatible with straight-shank and neutral toolholder configurations. Both ANSI and ISO standards apply to this insert, making it compatible with tooling systems dimensioned to either standard.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on turning insert compatible with DCGT-style neutral toolholders dimensioned to ANSI insert code DCGT21505 or ISO insert code DCGT070202. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to avoid cracking the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation, as contamination will affect insert seating and dimensional repeatability.
