The KENNAMETAL 1161918 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT32.51LF geometry, coated with TiN via a PVD process and graded KC730. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 5 degrees. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The LF chip breaker is optimized for finishing and light machining operations, and the honed cutting edge style helps protect the edge during those light cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers and users of this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workplates, as well as secondary applications in superalloys and titanium. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance balanced with moderate toughness, making it a reliable choice across P, M, and K workpiece material groups. The screw-on holding method provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders, and the insert delivers two usable cutting edges per unit. It is designed for light-depth finishing passes, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in screw-on CPMT-style toolholders compatible with ANSI insert code CPMT3251 and ISO insert code CPMT09T304. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, and boring across P, M, and K workpiece material groups. Material grades C2, C3, and C4 apply.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct screw torque driver recommended by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the screw-on insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert edge.
