The KENNAMETAL 1161917 is a CPMT32.50.5LF solid carbide turning insert in grade KC730 with a PVD-applied TiN coating. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and an 11-degree relief angle. It is designed for finishing and light machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The LF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow at lighter depths of cut, up to a maximum of 0.0492 inches. With two usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, this insert suits high-production turning, facing, and boring applications where wear resistance and predictable tool life are priorities.
This insert is intended for use in compatible CPMT-style screw-on toolholders in CNC and manual turning applications. It is suited for finish turning of steel and stainless steel components in aerospace, general machining, and industrial manufacturing environments. The KC730 grade provides high wear resistance across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material categories, with secondary capability in superalloys and titanium (S). Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool crib personnel are the typical users who select and install this insert.
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-on turning toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CPMT32505 and ISO insert code CPMT09T302. Suitable for multi-use turning, facing, and boring operations per the manufacturer specification.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's recommended seating procedure; do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
