The KENNAMETAL 1161906 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPGT21505LF geometry, coated with TiN via a PVD process and graded KC730. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it suited for finishing and light machining operations. The insert measures 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.0079 inches (1/128 inch), and an insert thickness of 0.0938 inches (3/32 inch). The LF chip breaker is designed to manage chip flow during light cuts and finishing passes. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments install these inserts on screw-on style toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations. Its KC730 grade targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials with a high-wear-resistance to moderate-toughness profile. Secondary applications include superalloys and titanium (S and M material codes). The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), keeping the insert in its intended finishing range. It conforms to ANSI insert code CPGT21505 and ISO insert code CPGT060202, allowing straightforward cross-referencing to compatible toolholders from various manufacturers.
Designed as a screw-on style replacement turning insert conforming to ANSI insert code CPGT21505 and ISO insert code CPGT060202, compatible with toolholders engineered for CPGT-geometry inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and screw-lock mounting.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not estimate or exceed the recommended value. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating a new insert, as a damaged pocket will affect cutting performance and surface finish.
