The KENNAMETAL 1161905 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPGT21.50LF geometry, coated with TiN via a PVD process and graded KC730. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle, making it well suited for light finishing and light machining passes. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.2539 inches (6.45 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0039 inches. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the screw-on holding method keeps the insert securely indexed during operation. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this tooling.
This insert is designed for external turning, facing, and boring operations where surface finish and close tolerances are the priority. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The KC730 grade delivers high-to-moderate wear resistance with adequate toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. It is also rated for secondary use on superalloys and titanium. The neutral hand orientation means it can be applied in standard right-hand toolholders configured for CPGT-style inserts.
Designed for use in screw-on style CPGT toolholders conforming to ANSI size code 21502 and ISO size code 060201. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper seating torque on the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
