The KENNAMETAL 1161885 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCGT32505LF geometry, coated with TiN via a PVD process and graded KC730. It is designed for external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, positive rake, positive side clearance, and a honed cutting edge style optimized for finishing and light machining passes. With a 0.375-inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of approximately 0.008 inches, this insert suits precision finishing work where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining of steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, and is also rated for superalloys and titanium as secondary workpiece materials. The LF chip breaker geometry is engineered for low-feed finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.050 inches (1.25 mm). It fits screw-on style toolholders that accept CCGT-geometry inserts. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand toolholder setups where CCGT geometry is specified. The KC730 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron material groups.
Designed for use in screw-on style CCGT toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with ANSI size code 32505 and ISO size code 09T302. Compatible with toolholder systems specified for CCGT geometry with positive rake and C-style insert shape.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method — do not over-torque the screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper support and prevent edge chipping on first contact.
