The KENNAMETAL 1161876 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VBGT220LF geometry, manufactured to ANSI insert code VBGT2202 and ISO code VBGT110301. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 5-degree relief angle, making it well-suited for light finishing and finish-turning operations. The insert carries a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating under the KC730 grade, which delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The LF chip breaker is optimized for finishing and light machining passes. Neutral hand orientation and a screw-on holding method allow straightforward mounting in compatible toolholders. The insert provides 2 usable cutting edges per unit.
This insert is intended for CNC and manual turning applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The KC730 grade is designed for primary use on steel (P class), stainless steel (M class), and cast iron (K class), with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium (S class). The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light material removal passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the typical end users. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries industry standard number VBGT2202LF.
Designed as an OEM-style screw-on replacement insert for toolholders accepting VBGT-style inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, conforming to ANSI size code 2202 and ISO size code 110301.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the screw-on clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method without overtightening, which can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation for neutral hand before securing.
