The KENNAMETAL 1161873 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT32.50LF geometry with a KC730 manufacturer grade and a PVD-applied TiN coating. Designed for finishing and light machining operations, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The cutting edge is honed for controlled engagement. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inches) and the corner radius is 0.0039 inches. With two cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, the insert is suited for high wear-resistance applications across a range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for CNC turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations in production and job-shop environments. It performs across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece material groups with high to moderate wear-resistance and toughness characteristics. Secondary workpiece material codes M and S are also supported, extending utility to stainless and superalloy applications. The DCGT geometry and LF chip breaker make this insert well-matched to finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. It conforms to both ANSI insert code DCGT32502 and ISO insert code DCGT11T3005.
Designed for use in screw-on DCGT-style toolholders compatible with ANSI insert code DCGT32502 and ISO insert code DCGT11T3005. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and accurate indexing.
