The KENNAMETAL 1161871 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN (titanium nitride) PVD coating, designed for precision metal-cutting operations in CNC and manual turning applications. Cataloged under the CCGT32.50LF designation, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a screw-on holding method. The KC730 grade delivers high to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The LF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light machining passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping at the edge line.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpieces. It fits screw-on toolholders accepting the CCGT 32502 ANSI size code or the CCGT 09T301 ISO size code. The positive rake angle and positive side clearance make it particularly effective for finishing cuts where low cutting forces and clean surface finishes are required. It is appropriate for use in production turning environments as well as job-shop applications where consistent insert performance across material families is needed.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without over-stressing the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or dimensional deviation.
