Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1161870 is a solid carbide turning insert with a TiN PVD coating, designed for precision metal removal in turning, facing, and boring operations. It carries the ANSI designation CCGT21502 and ISO designation CCGT060201. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge style. With an LF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing and light machining, this insert is suited for achieving tight tolerances and fine surface finishes on steel, stainless steel, and superalloys. A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician is the typical installer.

This insert is intended for finishing and light machining applications on steel (P-grade), stainless steel (M-grade), and cast iron and superalloy workpiece materials where high wear resistance is the priority. The screw-on holding method and positive side clearance make it compatible with standard CCGT-style toolholders. Multi-use application includes turning, facing, and boring passes. It delivers two cutting edges per insert, and its positive geometry reduces cutting forces, making it well suited for close-tolerance finishing work on CNC lathes and machining centers running steel and stainless workpieces.

Key Features

  • TiN PVD coating provides high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials
  • 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with positive rake and 7-degree relief angle for reduced cutting forces
  • LF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing and light machining passes
  • Honed cutting edge style for consistent, repeatable surface finish results
  • Two usable cutting edges per insert maximize tool life value
  • Screw-on holding method ensures secure, repeatable insert indexing in compatible toolholders

Compatibility

Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1102-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CCGT21502 inserts.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down or place the machine in an e-stop state and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
