Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1161865 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying the SPMT3252MF designation and KC730 manufacturer grade. Coated with TiN via a PVD process, this insert is engineered for high wear-resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. It features a square insert shape with a 90-degree included angle, positive rake, positive side clearance, and an 11-degree relief angle. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining operations. With four usable cutting edges and a screw-on holding method, it delivers consistent performance and efficient tooling cost per edge for CNC lathe and mill-turn applications.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and conventional lathes in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. It targets steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) as primary workpiece materials, with superalloys and titanium listed as secondary applications. The MF chip breaker geometry keeps chip control manageable at finishing depths, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in metal-cutting trades are the primary installers and users of this insert.

Key Features

  • KC730 grade with TiN PVD coating delivers high wear-resistance on steel and stainless steel
  • SPMT square insert shape with 90-degree included angle and positive rake geometry
  • MF chip breaker optimized for finishing and medium machining operations
  • Four cutting edges per insert for reduced cost per edge
  • Screw-on holding method for secure, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for balanced edge strength and surface finish

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting SPMT3252 screw-on style inserts conforming to ANSI and ISO standards (ANSI: SPMT3252, ISO: SPMT09T308).

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver to seat the clamping screw securely without over-torquing the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and contact surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and runout.
