The KENNAMETAL 1161842 is a CCMT32.51MF-style solid carbide turning insert with a KC730 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiN coating. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake with positive side clearance. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for finishing and medium machining operations. This insert is held in the toolholder by a screw-on method and delivers two cutting edges per insert. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC turning specialists are the primary users.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium. The KC730 grade provides high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) material groups. The 1/64-inch corner radius supports tight-tolerance finishing passes, while the MF geometry manages chip control during medium-depth cuts. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code CCMT3251 and ISO insert code CCMT09T304. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and screw hole diameter (0.1732 inches) before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh edge.
