The KENNAMETAL 1161363 is a solid carbide turning insert with a triangular (T) shape and KC850 manufacturer grade, designed for precision metal-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN that provides a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a positive rake and side clearance geometry. It is held in place via a screw-on mounting method and is suited for roughing and medium machining applications.
This insert is intended for use in turning operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys (ISO material codes P, M, K, and S). The chip breaker designation P targets chip control in roughing and medium machining cuts, making the insert well matched to interrupted or continuous cuts where moderate wear resistance and toughness are both required. Machinists and CNC operators working in job-shop or production environments will find this insert appropriate for moderate-to-aggressive material removal rates within the specified depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning toolholders accepting ANSI insert code T322 or ISO insert code T160308 triangular inserts. Compatible with workpiece materials coded P, M, K, and S per ISO 513 classification.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque for screw-on insert style. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
