The KENNAMETAL 1161362 is a solid carbide turning insert in a 60-degree triangle (T) shape, manufactured under the KC850 grade and coated via CVD with a TiC, TiCN, and TiN multilayer stack. It carries an ANSI insert code of T321 and an ISO code of T160304. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake, and a positive side clearance, making it suited for a wide range of turning operations. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), this insert is sized for precision work on external and internal turning applications across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys.
The 1161362 is intended for roughing and medium machining operations. KC850 grade characteristics deliver moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it effective across primary workpiece material codes P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and S (special and super alloys). Secondary compatibility extends to K and M material codes. It mounts via screw-on (screw-held) toolholders and is commonly applied in CNC lathe and turning center setups in production or job-shop environments. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches).
Designed for screw-on style turning toolholders accepting ANSI T321 (ISO T160304) inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes are P, M, K, and S as primary, and K and M as secondary. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry matches the T-style insert shape and 11-degree relief angle before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a safe position. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver for the screw-on clamp screw to avoid stripping the insert pocket or fracturing the carbide. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
