The KENNAMETAL 1161361 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T221P grade KC850 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This triangular (60-degree) insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, an insert length of 0.4331 inches (11 mm), and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch), it is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. The screw-on holding method provides rigid, repeatable seating in compatible toolholders.
This insert is intended for use in turning operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys. The KC850 grade with its positive rake geometry and negative side clearance is well matched to interrupted cuts, variable stock conditions, and applications where both moderate wear resistance and toughness are required. Chip breaker style P is optimized for roughing to medium machining, making this insert effective in production environments where aggressive material removal rates are typical. Sold in minimum order quantities of 5 per purchase.
Designed for use in screw-on style turning toolholders that accept ANSI T221 or ISO T110304 triangular inserts with a 0.0945-inch hole diameter. Compatible with KENNAMETAL toolholders and third-party holders conforming to the same insert seating geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before insert replacement. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified insert screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Verify that the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are free of chips and debris before seating the insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when setting tool offsets after replacement.
