The KENNAMETAL 1161324 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMP643 geometry, designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in production machining environments. It carries the KC850 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which provides moderate wear resistance with sustained toughness across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert is square in shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. It is suited for medium machining chip breaker conditions and is held using a clamp or pin system. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of KENLOC series tooling setups.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel and stainless steel, with secondary capability in cast iron and special or super alloys. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry deliver stable cutting action in medium machining passes. With 8 cutting edges per insert, the SNMP643 geometry offers strong cost-per-edge value in high-volume production. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with an ISO insert code of SNMP190612, making it interchangeable with tooling specified to either standard. This insert is sold individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use in KENLOC series turning toolholders that accept SNMP-style inserts with a clamp or pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI insert code SNMP643 and ISO insert code SNMP190612, allowing direct substitution in any toolholder specified to either standard for this insert geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes must be at a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener for the KENLOC toolholder to secure the clamp or pin. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket can cause insert fracture or poor surface finish.
