The KENNAMETAL 1161320 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMP432K configuration, carrying the KC850 grade designation. It is designed for external and internal metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, delivering a combination of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The square insert geometry provides a 90-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.03125 inches. With 8 available cutting edges and a negative rake angle, this insert is a common choice for production turning on steel and stainless steel workpieces.
This insert fits toolholders in the KENLOC series and is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications. Primary workpiece materials include steel and stainless steel, with secondary applicability to cast iron and special or super alloys. The K chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style make it appropriate for moderate to high material removal rates in production environments. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance machining departments. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm).

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and in an E-stop or locked-out state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not improvise fasteners or exceed the recommended clamping force. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker orientation before resuming cutting operations.
