The KENNAMETAL 1161290 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMP642 geometry, grade KC850, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning, facing, and boring operations. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN that delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it well-suited for interrupted cuts and demanding stock removal. The insert measures 19.34 mm (0.7616 inches) in length with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. It carries a negative rake and negative side clearance geometry with a honed cutting edge. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, with extended capability on super alloys and special alloys. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong cutting edge suitable for medium machining chip breaker operations. The KC850 grade is rated for steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and special and super alloys (S) under moderate wear-resistance and toughness to high-toughness cutting conditions. With four cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit and reduced per-edge tooling cost in production environments.
Designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept CNMP-geometry inserts with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle and clamp or pin holding methods. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special and super alloy workpieces per ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool-room technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp or pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture under cutting load. Inspect the pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change.
