The KENNAMETAL 1161204 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. This uncoated insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a honed cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, insert length is approximately 1.308 inches (16.61 mm), and the corner radius is 1/32 inches. Grade K68 delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials. Four usable cutting edges per insert extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost in production environments.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. It performs in medium-machining chip-breaker conditions and is rated for primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S, covering stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and aluminum or non-ferrous metals. Typical use cases include light-to-moderate material removal on production lathes in job shop, aerospace component, and general machining environments. The KENLOC series insert is held by clamp-and-pin method, compatible with standard VNMS-style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 0.049 inches (1.25 mm).
Designed for use in VNMS-style KENLOC series toolholders. ANSI insert code VNMS332; ISO insert code VNMS160408. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for interchangeability with compatible negative-rake toolholder systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to ensure proper clamping force without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and pin for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
