The KENNAMETAL 1161200 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries ANSI code VNMP332 and ISO code VNMP160408. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and negative side clearance, making it well suited for stable, high-wear-resistance applications. The grade K68 formulation delivers high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials. With four usable cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert offers extended tool life per unit. It is held in place by clamp and pin methods.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. The K68 grade targets primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S, covering stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. The chip breaker is rated for medium machining operations, making this a versatile choice for shops handling a range of materials in moderate cut depth applications. It is typically installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series turning toolholders that accept VNMP332 insert geometry with clamp and pin retention. Verify toolholder pocket geometry against ANSI code VNMP332 and ISO code VNMP160408 before installation.
Installation is performed by machining technicians familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating the new insert to ensure accurate positioning and surface finish.
