The KENNAMETAL 1161191 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENLOC series, conforming to ANSI insert code TNMS331 and ISO insert code TNMS160404. This triangular (60-degree included angle) insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. With six cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, it is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations. The K68 grade delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it well suited for machining stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
The 1161191 insert is used in medium machining chip breaker applications across a range of lathe and turning center setups. It supports both ANSI and ISO toolholding systems and is compatible with clamp and pin insert holding methods. Primary workpiece material codes are P, M, K, N, and S, covering stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). This insert fits residential and industrial machine shops as well as production turning environments where consistent wear resistance and edge life are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting TNMS-style inserts with clamp and pin holding methods. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI insert code TNMS331 and ISO insert code TNMS160404. Suitable for machining stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N), and superalloys and titanium (S) workpiece materials per the material grade codes stated in the product specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using the clamp and pin method specified for the KENLOC toolholder; do not overtighten the clamp screw beyond the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new edge to ensure proper seating and runout control.
