The KENNAMETAL 1161186 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CNGP431 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The insert is neutral-hand with a negative rake and negative side clearance, making it well suited for stable, high-wear turning operations on difficult materials. With four cutting edges per insert and a honed cutting edge style, it delivers consistent performance across medium machining applications in stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous metals. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in compatible KENLOC toolholders.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S, reflecting broad workpiece material coverage. The K68 grade is characterized by high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it appropriate for shops running consistent production cuts in these material families. Insert thickness is 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch), and the maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inch (1.25 mm). The ANSI insert code is CNGP431 and the ISO insert code is CNGP120404.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept CNGP431 geometry inserts with clamp and pin holding. Confirmed compatible insert codes are ANSI CNGP431 and ISO CNGP120404. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp and pin are properly engaged before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert geometry, and inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping at regular intervals.
