The KENNAMETAL 1161160 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal cutting in demanding machining operations. Built to ANSI and ISO standards with insert code DNMP432 (ISO: DNMP150408), this uncoated K68-grade insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and zero-degree relief angle. The 0.5-inch inscribed circle and 1/32-inch corner radius suit medium-machining chip breaker applications. Four cutting edges extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost. Grade K68 delivers high wear resistance balanced with toughness across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers will recognize this geometry in high-production turning cells.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The medium-machining chip breaker operation supports consistent chip control at moderate feed rates and depths of cut up to 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The uncoated bright finish allows direct inspection of cutting edge condition and is preferred where coating adhesion to the workpiece is a concern, such as with aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys. The neutral hand orientation makes this insert adaptable to a variety of toolholder setups without requiring a handed replacement.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNMP432 geometry inserts secured by clamp and pin holding methods. Verify toolholder seat and clamp configuration against ANSI DNMP432 and ISO DNMP150408 specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamp or pin fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not over-tighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under improper seating force. Inspect the insert pocket for wear, chips, or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care; edges are sharp and the substrate is brittle.
