The KENNAMETAL 1161157 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CNMS642 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. Designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and side clearance configuration. The K68 grade delivers high wear resistance balanced with toughness, making it well-suited for machining stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/4-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it fits standard CNMS-style toolholders and is installed by machinists and CNC operators in precision turning applications.
This insert is engineered for medium machining chip breaker operation across a range of workpiece materials including non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The uncoated bright finish is appropriate for applications where a coating would negatively affect surface finish or edge sharpness, such as aluminum and non-ferrous turning. The CNMS642 geometry provides four usable cutting edges, which reduces per-edge tooling cost in production environments. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm), making it best suited for light to medium material removal passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed for use in CNMS-style toolholders that accept a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert with a negative clearance angle. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Verify toolholder specifications against the CNMS642 insert geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp or pin holding method is properly engaged before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches per pass to avoid insert fracture or premature edge failure.
