The KENNAMETAL 1161146 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMP431 geometry, part of the KENLOC series. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The insert is uncoated bright finish, carries a negative rake and negative side clearance, and has 4 usable cutting edges secured by clamp and pin holding methods. Grade K68 is engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum and non-ferrous material families. Licensed HVAC techs, machinists, and tool-crib professionals will recognize this as a general-purpose finishing and medium-machining insert for CNC lathes and boring applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with secondary applicability across ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The chip breaker geometry is rated for medium machining conditions. The honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on difficult materials. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch), positioning this insert for finishing and light semi-finish passes rather than heavy stock removal. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards (ANSI code CNMP431, ISO code CNMP120404).

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the pocket and shim for wear or carbide debris before seating a new insert to avoid seating errors or premature edge failure.
