The KENNAMETAL 1161124 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. It carries an ANSI insert code of VNMP331 and an ISO insert code of VNMP160404. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. Grade K313 provides high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it a reliable choice for shops running stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this insert for production turning applications.
This insert is suited for a broad range of turning operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Its negative rake geometry and negative side clearance (clearance code N, tolerance code M) support stable cutting forces at moderate chip loads. The chip breaker is rated for medium machining operations. Primary workpiece material classifications covered are P, M, K, N, and S, corresponding to stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods and delivers four usable cutting edges per insert.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept VNMP-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and clamp-and-pin retention. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp and pin to prevent insert rocking during cut. Inspect the insert pocket for debris, damage, or wear that could affect seating and dimensional accuracy before each insert change.
