The KENNAMETAL 1161098 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the CNMP643 geometry, belonging to the KENLOC series. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and side clearance. The inscribed circle measures 0.75 inches, the insert length is 0.7616 inches (19.34 mm), the insert thickness is 0.25 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0469 inches (3/64 inch). With four cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for medium machining operations including turning, facing, and boring. It is held via clamp and pin and carries both ANSI and ISO standards compliance.
This insert is designed for machining non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, with grade characteristics covering stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N), all at high to moderate wear resistance and toughness. The K313 grade and uncoated bright finish make it appropriate for applications where coating buildup must be avoided, such as finishing cuts on aluminum or other non-ferrous workpieces. It is a multi-use insert applicable to turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMP643 inserts secured by clamp and pin holding methods. Compatible with ANSI and ISO standard insert seating configurations for CNC turning, facing, and boring applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before any insert change. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and verify the clamp and pin are secure before resuming operation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidelines and inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Dispose of worn inserts according to applicable shop safety and carbide recycling procedures.
