The KENNAMETAL 1160931 is a solid carbide triangular turning insert in the KENLOC series, grade KC730 with a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiN coating. It carries an ANSI/ISO-standard TNGP insert style with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 10 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert length is 0.6496 inches (16.50 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0079 inches. With six cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for use in KENLOC-style toolholders that accept TNGP-style triangular inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. It targets production turning applications in industries requiring tight tolerances on steel and difficult-to-machine alloys such as superalloys and titanium. The KC730 PVD-TiN coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability, making it appropriate for moderate-to-finishing depth-of-cut passes. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Applications include external turning, facing, and light boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in both job-shop and production environments.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting TNGP triangular inserts with a clamp-and-pin holding method. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys and titanium (S). Conforms to industry standard number TNGP3305 per ANSI and ISO specifications.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and KENLOC clamping hardware to seat the insert securely — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for debris and wear before seating a new insert.
