The KENNAMETAL 1160922 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNGP431 geometry, finished with a PVD-applied TiN coating and assigned the KC730 manufacturer grade. It belongs to the KENLOC series and carries a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inches), and insert length is 1.7434 inches (22.14 mm). With a negative rake angle of 10 degrees and a honed cutting edge, this insert is engineered for high wear-resistance applications across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece families. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists specify this insert for demanding material-removal operations.
This insert is suited for a wide range of lathe-based operations including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The medium chip breaker designation makes it effective across moderate to aggressive depth-of-cut scenarios, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). It is appropriate for both production and job-shop environments running steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), and secondary workpiece materials including superalloys and titanium (S). The four available cutting edges extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost in high-volume turning applications.
Designed for use with KENLOC series toolholders that accept VNGP-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with toolholders specifying ANSI insert code VNGP431 or ISO insert code VNGP220404. Intended for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloy and titanium workpiece materials.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamp screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Do not attempt to regrind or modify the cutting edge.
