The KENNAMETAL 1160921 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining environments. It carries the ANSI designation VNMS332 and ISO designation VNMS160408. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a TiN PVD coating applied over a KC730 carbide grade substrate. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, an insert length of 16.61 mm (approximately 0.654 inches), and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch), this insert is suited for medium machining chip-breaker applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert on compatible KENLOC toolholders for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
This insert is engineered for primary use on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, with secondary suitability for superalloys and titanium. It performs across high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness ranges for each of those material categories. The KC730 grade with TiN PVD coating delivers consistent edge life across finishing and semi-finishing passes in both manual and CNC turning centers. The four available cutting edges make the insert cost-effective for production environments where tool change frequency must be managed closely. It is appropriate for both horizontal and vertical turning machine setups where a VNMS-style pocket is present.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting VNMS-style insert pockets with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for multi-use applications including turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Always index or replace the insert with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert fully into the KENLOC pocket before applying clamping force to avoid micro-fracture at the cutting edge. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw or pin for wear each time the insert is indexed to maintain consistent tool-tip positioning.
