The KENNAMETAL 1160917 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNGP433K and ISO code DNGP150412, designed for single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Coated with titanium nitride (TiN) via a PVD process, this insert carries the KC730 grade and belongs to the KENLOC series. It features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The chip breaker designation is P, supporting roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning steel (P-class), stainless steel (M-class), and cast iron (K-class) workpieces where high wear resistance to moderate toughness is required. The KC730 grade with PVD TiN coating delivers consistent tool life across roughing and medium-duty cuts. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry, combined with the KENLOC clamp-and-pin holding method, provide rigid seating in compatible DNGP-style toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making this insert appropriate for semi-finish to rough turning passes on the listed workpiece materials.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop, spindle off, and lockout-tagout procedures followed per applicable shop safety standards. Use the correct KENLOC clamp hardware and seating pin to secure the insert fully before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert grade and workpiece material combination.
