The KENNAMETAL 1160916 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal turning applications on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the ANSI designation DNGP432 and ISO code DNGP150408, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and negative side clearance geometry. The KC730 grade substrate is PVD-coated with TiN, delivering high wear resistance balanced with toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.6102 inches (15.50 mm), thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0312 inches. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians in production turning operations.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K as primary, with S as a secondary application. The P chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during interrupted and continuous cuts at moderate to aggressive depths of cut. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The insert seats into DNGP-style holders using clamp or pin holding methods, making it compatible with a wide range of standard KENLOC-compatible toolholders used in general-purpose turning cells.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always de-energize and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or pin to ensure proper edge presentation and prevent insert movement under cutting load. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before each insert change, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or insert fracture.
