The KENNAMETAL 1160861 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation VNGG3305 and ISO designation VNGG160402, featuring a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation. The insert is PVD-coated with TiN and ground to G tolerance, delivering consistent dimensional accuracy. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, and the KC730 grade provides high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. With four cutting edges and a honed cutting edge style, this insert offers good tool economy for production environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and superalloys including titanium. It fits toolholders designed for VNGG-style inserts with negative rake and negative side clearance, using clamp or pin holding methods. Typical applications include finishing passes and light roughing on ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys in aerospace, general machining, and manufacturing environments. The KC730 grade is rated for high to moderate wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece categories.
Designed for use in VNGG-style turning toolholders that accept ANSI size code 3305 inserts with negative rake and pin or clamp retention. Conforms to ANSI VNGG3305 and ISO VNGG160402 standards, ensuring fitment in holders dimensioned to those specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker pocket for debris or damage before seating a new edge to ensure accurate positioning and safe operation.
