The KENNAMETAL 1160850 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation DNGG431LF and ISO designation DNGG150404, carrying the KC730 manufacturer grade. It features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating applied to a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) carbide substrate, delivering high wear resistance across a range from moderate to demanding cuts. The insert is neutral-hand, uses an LF chip breaker geometry rated for finishing and light machining operations, and holds four usable cutting edges. At 15.5 mm in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it fits KENLOC-style toolholders that accept clamp-and-pin holding. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, with secondary capability on superalloys and titanium. The KC730 grade is engineered for ISO material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), and K (cast iron), providing a balance of wear resistance and toughness that covers both finish passes and light stock-removal work. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries material grade designations C2, C3, and C4, making it appropriate across a broad range of production turning setups where surface finish and edge life are priorities.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept DNGG-style inserts with clamp and pin holding. Conforms to ANSI insert code DNGG431 and ISO insert code DNGG150404 for cross-reference with compatible tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Confirm the toolholder clamp and pin are free of chips and seating surfaces are clean before securing the insert to maintain proper geometry and runout. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications for correct clamping torque and insert seating procedure. Verify depth-of-cut and feed parameters are within the LF chip breaker range before resuming cuts.
