The KENNAMETAL 1160849 is a solid carbide turning insert in the KENLOC series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Conforming to ANSI insert code DNGG430.5 and ISO code DNGG150402, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a TiN coating applied via PVD process. The KC730 grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, producing controlled chip formation at shallow depths of cut. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, this insert is built for tight-tolerance surface finishing work where dimensional accuracy matters.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The DNGG style with negative rake and negative side clearance suits applications where a rigid, stable cutting edge is required. The LF chip breaker targets finishing and light roughing scenarios where surface finish and close tolerances are the priority. Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp or retention pin torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before resuming cuts; do not use a chipped or cracked insert.
