The KENNAMETAL 1160356 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG432K geometry, grade KC850, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which builds wear resistance at the cutting edge while maintaining toughness through the carbide substrate. The insert has a 90-degree square shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125-inch corner radius, and a 0.1875-inch thickness. Rake and side clearance are both negative, suiting this insert to rigid setups and interrupted-cut stability. The K chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a range of feeds and depths. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible KENLOC toolholders.
This insert targets steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), cast iron (ISO K), and superalloys (ISO S) with a grade characteristic of moderate wear resistance and toughness to high toughness across those material groups. Secondary workpiece material codes are K and M. The ANSI insert code is SNMG432 and the ISO insert code is SNMG120408. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Typical applications include roughing to semi-finishing passes on turned components in job shop, aerospace, and general machining environments. The insert is held by clamp or pin methods, offering flexibility across toolholder configurations in the KENLOC series.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept SNMG432 inserts secured by clamp or pin holding methods. ANSI insert code SNMG432; ISO insert code SNMG120408.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine at a full stop and spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
