The KENNAMETAL 1160310 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation TNMG431P and ISO designation TNMG220404, carrying the KC850 manufacturer grade. It features a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, delivering a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to moderate-to-heavy cutting conditions. The insert has a 60-degree triangular shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. It belongs to the KENLOC series and provides 6 usable cutting edges. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is designed for medium machining chip-breaker conditions and targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys as primary workpiece materials, with material codes P, M, K, and S. The P and M grade characteristics emphasize moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making the insert suitable for interrupted cuts and variable stock conditions. Material grades C5 and C6 apply. Typical applications include general turning on CNC lathes and manual engine lathes in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inch).
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders that accept TNMG-style inserts held by clamp and pin. Compatible with applications requiring ANSI insert code TNMG431 or ISO insert code TNMG220404. Verify toolholder seating pocket geometry before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state. Use the correct KENLOC clamp and pin hardware specified for TNMG-style inserts; do not substitute clamp components from other series. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination will affect insert stability and surface finish. Follow the machine manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for clamp screws.
