The KENNAMETAL 1160292 is a TNMG321 triangular turning insert in the KC850 grade, designed for high-performance metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. The insert is solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN, which provides a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a range of workpiece materials. It carries a neutral hand orientation, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches. The 60-degree included angle and negative rake geometry make it well suited for interrupted and continuous cuts where edge stability is critical. This insert is part of the KENLOC series and is sold individually with a minimum order of 5 pieces.
The 1160292 is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, as well as special and super alloys. Its KC850 grade characteristics span moderate wear resistance and toughness to high toughness across ISO material groups P, M, K, and S. Typical applications include medium machining operations in production shops, job shops, and aerospace or general manufacturing environments where a versatile carbide grade is preferred. The insert delivers 6 cutting edges per piece, reducing per-edge tooling cost in high-volume runs.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept TNMG-style negative-rake triangular inserts with clamp and pin retention. Conforms to ANSI insert code TNMG321 and ISO insert code TNMG160304, making it interchangeable with any toolholder specified for those industry-standard insert designations.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate KENLOC clamp screw and torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
