Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 1160290 is a solid carbide turning insert designated TNMG332MG in the KC850 grade, part of the KENLOC series. It features a triangular 60-degree shape with a negative rake angle and neutral hand orientation. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius. A multilayer CVD coating stack of TiC, TiCN, and TiN delivers moderate wear resistance with high toughness. Six available cutting edges per insert make it an efficient choice for production turning operations. Licensed tradespeople and CNC machinists use this insert for steel and stainless steel stock removal.

This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications across a range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys. The MG chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining operations. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The insert seats and is held by clamp or pin methods, consistent with standard KENLOC toolholders. It conforms to both ANSI (TNMG332) and ISO (TNMG160408) standards, making it compatible with a wide range of qualified toolholding systems used in CNC lathe and turning center setups.

Key Features

  • KC850 grade with multilayer CVD TiC, TiCN, and TiN coating for wear resistance and toughness across P, M, K, and S material classes
  • 60-degree triangular insert shape with 6 cutting edges per insert
  • MG chip breaker geometry suited for roughing and medium machining
  • Negative rake and 0-degree relief angle with chamfered and honed cutting edge preparation
  • Conforms to ANSI TNMG332 and ISO TNMG160408 standards
  • Clamp or pin insert holding; compatible with standard KENLOC toolholding systems

Compatibility

Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept TNMG332 (ANSI) or TNMG160408 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and special or super alloys in CNC lathe and turning center applications.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Torque the clamp or retaining pin to the toolholder manufacturer specification and verify seating before resuming cuts.
