The KENNAMETAL 1160255 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG433 geometry, carrying the KC850 grade designation within the KENLOC series. It features a multilayer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN — applied over a carbide substrate to deliver a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert has a 90-degree square shape (ANSI code SNMG433, ISO code SNMG120412), a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch (0.0469-inch) corner radius. Eight cutting edges are available per insert. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations across a range of CNC and manual lathe setups. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians are the primary end users.
This insert is designed for medium machining applications on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces, with extended grade coverage into special and super alloys. Grade characteristics indicate moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across the P, M, K, and S material group designations. The KC850 grade is particularly suited to applications where both abrasive wear and interrupted cutting loads are present. Multi-use application compatibility covers turning, facing, and boring, making it a flexible tooling choice for general-purpose lathe work in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in KENLOC series toolholders accepting SNMG433 geometry inserts with clamp or pin holding. Conforms to ANSI and ISO SNMG insert standards. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and stainless steel (M), with secondary application coverage for cast iron (K) and special or super alloys (S).
Turning insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a powered-down, locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Seat the insert firmly in the pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp or pin per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before applying any cutting load. Inspect the cutting edge and insert seating surface for chips or debris before each use. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with facility and local carbide recycling or disposal guidelines.
